“Day and night I could work and I still wouldn’t do it all.”

Maybe we can’t do it all. Okay, probably none of us can to it all.
But that doesn’t mean we can’t do something.
Remember:
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
~Lao-tzu, Chinese philosopher (604 BC - 531 BC)
I do love Mary Frank’s quote – and her paintings. I’ve posted two of her cave paintings that I particularly identify with since I painted the subterranean landscapes of Mammoth Cave National Park. It was great to work by headlamp underground, bats flying all about.

But anyway, back to her quote…
Mary Frank gives us permission not to be perfect. Take it from a former perfectionist myself, perfectionism is a dangerous thing. Perfectionism can lead to procrastination for fear of not being perfect. So two points for today: we don’t have to be perfect and we can take small steps at a time to accomplish great feats.
Lao-tzu’s quote was particularly comforting when I faced the daunting 1632 of the Hancock last year.
For today, I plan to organize my paintings, their labels, and my studio.
What task – big or small – will cross off your to-do list by the end of today?
What will you give yourself permission to do, even if it means not doing it perfectly?
