There's no wrong way to start."

I am new to the blogosphere, but I am eager to join the 21st-century! Beginning this blog is a little intimidating, like staring at a new, blank canvas.

I am a visual artist (a painter) who also teaches art full-time, working closely with others to encourage their creativity. My interests besides art include: traveling, hiking, biking, and gardening. I live in the Greater St. Louis Area with my wonderful, new husband, Dan, whom I look forward to exploring the world and life with, and two dogs that we think are extraordinary: a 14-year-old Cairn terrier named Sam that Dan adopted as a puppy, and a one-eyed red min pin mix named Daphne that I adopted from the Humane Society. Daphne was four-years-old (estimated by her teeth) when I adopted her...that was five years ago. No one is flawless, and neither is Daphne. It's just that one of her flaws is very apparent upon first meeting her. I like to think of it as a perpetual wink though. I feel fortunate that my life is filled with lots of creativity, love and adventure! Did I mention that I'm a favorite aunt, too, to my 5-year-old niece and 6-year-old nephew?
I am passionate about painting and learning. A year ago, I even learned to ice-climb in Alaska! It is important to me to make and have goals to work towards constantly. That is one of my motivations for blogging: it is a new goal, something very unfamiliar to me. I will approach this blog the same way I do my paintings in my studio, as a constantly evolving work in process. I plan to address my passions for creativity and learning in this blog, along with inspiration for and even dilemmas of creating. And although I am new to blogging, I am enthusiastic about this new adventure and commitment. I'll be blogging about both art and life, and hope to grow as an artist and a person through this process of blogging. I'm also hoping to inspire and be inspired, to connect with others, and possibly even lead others to finding and exploring their own creativity. In addition, blogging will keep me accountable for remaining creative and active in my own studio. Finally, if I don't begin blogging, I think that in a year I may regret not having blogged at all!
I want to hear from you. Anytime and all the time. I look forward to the conversation and comments beginning! What I do ask is that you respect this space. Please be respectful with your comments. Constructive criticism is welcome, but slander and profanity is not. You can always contact me directly as well. Thanks! And let the blogging begin!
