“I am still beginning
and I still go on making mistakes.”

and I still go on making mistakes.”

“The seed of your next art work lies embedded in the imperfections of your current piece.
Such imperfections (or mistakes, if you’re feeling particularly depressed about them today)
are your guides – valuable, reliable, objective, non-judgmental guides –
to matters you need to reconsider or develop further.”
~ David Bayles and Ted Orland, Art and Fear
I am still beginning.
Second semester started this week, and I began teaching two new sections of art classes.
Tonight, I begin taking a new class at the gym.
Saturday morning will begin with a workshop I’ve not taught yet.
Afterwards, I’ll set up and begin using my new digital camera to take images of my art.
Every painting is a new beginning.
We’ve just begun a new year.
Every morning we begin a new day.
Beginnings seem to be everywhere.
But rather than feel besieged by beginnings, we can know in advance that we will make mistakes. And that these mistakes will be a valuable piece of the process.
We can give ourselves permission not to be perfect so that we can take pleasure in beginnings and appreciate the imperfections that will guide us and show us our way.
Happy Beginnings!
Mary
