StencilGirl® Products & Emerald Creek Blog Hop

Welcome to Day ONE of the StencilGirl® Products & Emerald Creek Blog Hop!
StencilGirl & Emerald Creek Blog Hop
I’m excited to be participating in this hop and sharing my new art journal cover!
Mary C. Nasser, Art Journal Cover
First, I opened my journal so I could apply gesso to the front, back and spine all at once.
I began by putting blue painter’s tape over the elastic band to keep it clean,
then used a large plastic palette knife to spread gesso over the entire cover of my small Dylusions journal.
Mary C. Nasser, StencilGirl & Emerald Creek Blog Hop
Once the white gesso dries, I layered vintage papers, inks, and acrylics, to embellish the covers.
I loved combining Golden High Flow Titan Buff with Pam Carriker's Fluid Matt acrylics
in Turquoise, Rain and Nightfall!
I also added acrylic inks in Paynes Gray and Turquoise.
Mary C. Nasser, StencilGirl & Emerald Creek Blog Hop
Next, I added Faber-Castell Whipped Spackle (a heavy textured gesso) with a palette knife
through my
Map stencil, Map Symbols stencil, and Compass stencil onto the cover.

Once dried, I realigned each stencil and applied VersaMark with an Ink Blusher.
It was a cinch to realign with the dimensional spackle!

Than I sprinkled on a embossing powders from Emerald Creek, tapped off the excess, and heated with my heat tool. Below I'm using Seth Apter's Deep Sea Baked Texture on my Compass stencil.
Mary C. Nasser, StencilGirl & Emerald Creek Blog Hop
I repeated this process on the other stenciled areas, working on one area at a time.

Emerald Creek Products used:

Deep Sea Baked Texture
Candy Turquoise Embossing Powder
Turquoise Sparkle Embossing Powder
Ocean Spray Embossing Powder with Bye Bye stamp
Patina Oxide Baked Texture on Vintage Anchor charm
Mary C. Nasser, Art Journal Cover
In the detail below, you can really see the sparkle in the Turquoise Sparkle Embossing Powder

and the Vintage Anchor charm coated in Patina Oxide Baked Texture!
For the anchor, I pressed the
VersaMark embossing ink pad onto the surface of the charm,
sprinkled with Patina Oxide and heated. Once cooled, I repeated this process a second time.
Mary C. Nasser, Art Journal Cover
Lastly, I inked the edges of the cover with my StazOn ink pads in Teal and Midnight Blue,
swiping the ink pads up and down the edges a few times and over the book spine, too.

Oh my gosh Mary! What a creative use of the powders! I seem to do the same thing over and over but you did something different. I'm going to have to go back to my art room and play using a few of your tips. Thank you.
