StencilGirl Blog Hop!

1/2/2014

We interrupt your regularly scheduled Friday Favorite to bring you the first StencilGirl Talk blog hop of 2014!

For this StencilGirl blog hop, we’re showcasing stencils by Kae Pea (Kristen Powers) along with Rubbermoon stamps. Not only does Kristen design stencils for StencilGirl, but she is also the owner of Rubbermoon!
Best of all, both Kristen Powers and Mary Beth Shaw are hopping along with us!!

You're on the right track if you just arrived from my friend Kirsten Reed’s blog. If not, no worries!
You can just follow the list below and start back at the beginning.
StencilGirl Midcentury Modern Elements #1 stencil
I chose to work with Kae Pea’s 4" x 4" Midcentury Modern Elements #1 stencil to create a painted treasure box using collage and stencils and stamps!
StencilGirl Rubbermoon
Inspired by my recent visit with Kristen Powers and seeing her painted treasure box, Kristen encouraged me to make a painted treasure box of my own!

I got a cigar box and wooden ball knobs...
Rubbermoon
...and used Matisse background color Antique Blue to prime both the cigar box and 5 ball knobs.
Rubbermoon
Kristen helped me, too, in selecting kre8tive Rubbermoon stamps which were map-like during our visit.
I used 5 kre8tive stamps, and waterproof black ink, and stamped away onto a vintage black and white survey map I'd torn into large pieces (approximately the same size as each side of the box).
Rubbermoon
Then I adhered the torn survey map pieces to my cigar box with gel medium.

I added lots of bright fun acrylic paint through the Midcentury Modern Elements #1 stencil with inksweepers, repeating elements and changing the direction of the stencil. I glued a little text "I wish to the top, added a little color with Primsacolor colored pencils, and used a hot glue gun to attach 4 of the ball knobs to the bottom 4 corners of the box, and 1 ball knob to the top for a handle to open the treasure box.

Mary,

I have 'grown' into quite the collector of cute, sturdy, and impressionable boxes (that have yet become 'impressed upon') that have accumulated in my studio. Reading this may have given me the 'nudge' to pull them out! If I may ask, where did you find the vintage survey maps? I am very attracted to the map/geometrical design on your project...and of course, with the splashes of color! Thanks!
