My favorite thing about spring is the weather.
Today's forecast: Partly cloudy, chance of flowers.

"You expected to be sad in the fall. Part of you died each year when the leaves fell from the trees and their branches were bare against the wind and the cold, wintery light. But you knew there would always be the spring, as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person died for no reason." -- Ernest Hemingway

My favorite thing about Spring is the rebirth and presence of teeming life that comes with it. It is the world's way of saying you've gone too long with the cold and slumber, it is time to grow again.

The gentle breeze that comes with the smell of flowers........... and my birthday (still young enough to enjoy that!)

Beginning is marked by the pop of Snowdrops. Maples bud, Forsythia blooms and everything turns green. Hiking the river path is cool and easy. The undergrowth has not yet taken over. Dogs get a free pass with out cocklebur or ticks. No mosquitoes.

My favorite thing about spring is the color. Here in East TN, the redbuds and dogwood flowers against the bright green grass is overwhelmingly beautiful!

I love how everyone goes crazy. The winters are so long and cold here in Minnesota, everyone completely flips out when it finally thaws!

I love the surprises spring brings. Maybe that's just because I'm a disorganized gardener! I love it when the tulips and daffodils come up or - as it was in one of the school gardens I manage - some spinach survives the winter and tastes VERY good as a right-then-and-there snack as I'm working.

I miss the season of Spring! In Louisville we have 2 seasons- really hot or really cold. Then about 2 weeks in between that qualify as Spring and Fall!

I love the smell of early morning dew on the grass and the feel of the still cool breezes that tingle across my skill. I love the way my cats perch on the windowsill and listen to the birds singing the Song of Spring as day breaks. But my favorite thing about Spring above all the reasons I have stated is the one I keep secret...the secret smile I get seeing my love lean against a flowering tree.

Hi Mary!
Spring is my favorite time of year to go hiking! All of the spring birds chirping and gorgeous spring wildflowers are covering the forest floor! It is amazing to live in Missouri at this time of year (despite the crazy weather changes. There is so much nature to see!

my favorite thing about spring is seeing all the warm-weather animals come back. our front porch starts teeming with little pink geckos at night, and this year we have ten moth cocoons. they're almost like little wild pets.

WOW what a lovely painting!!! I'd like to ask you about it- is this on a canvas wrapped board. sheet canvas mounted to something else, or stretched canvas?

And my fave thing about spring is the flowers. I LOVE LOVE LOVE flowers (eventhough I have really severe allergies), and we live 6 blocks from our city park, so this time of year the dogs and I get to start walking again, and I take lots of photos of flowers coming up.

Good questions, Aimee.
And thank you for the compliment on my painting!

It is acrylic and encaustic (wax) on stretched canvas, and is framed in a black wood frame and ready to hang!!

Best,
Mary

Thanks, Aimee.

Because it is a small canvas and little wax, it is durable. I like how the framed stretched canvas becomes an object, too, rather than a window.

Best,
Mary

I'm so happy to see spring is here. I heard a wise man say that everyone needs hope in their life, and spring represents hope to me.... hope and the possibilities of the new year. I know it sounds schmaltzy but you asked! Love your work!
