Mary Beth Shaw’s Parts is Parts workshop at Rock Paper Scissors on Saturday was fabulous!
Mary Beth demonstrated and explained several mixed media techniques to create parts to incorporate into future projects and artworks. It was great that she provided all participants with printed instructions to keep as a reference, too. I’ve got my hand-out tucked into my autographed copy of Flavor for Mixed Media!
Wanted to share some photos of the parts I created during the workshop!
Our workshop began by creating collagraph plates – a textured mixed media collage on a rigid, flat surface – from which we later printed our own hand painted papers.

Our workshop began by creating collagraph plates – a textured mixed media collage on a rigid, flat surface – from which we later printed our own hand painted papers.
Then we created crazy paper from scrap paper, maps, threads, muslin, etc.
As the crazy paper dried, we practiced a text block process using white paint to block out words on vintage text…it was a much quieter and more meditative process than making crazy paper!
Next we created cardboard cutouts, painting and distressing the cardboard.
Mine below has a cutout window and added text.

Lastly, we learned to decorate and incorporate Plexiglas pieces into our work.
Already looking forward to Mary Beth’s next workshop on Saturday!
Have a great start to your week!
