New Work Wednesday: Volcano (or how I fit a big island and a farm into 5 by 7 inches)

My new painting this week is entitled Volcano.

This painting layers Hawaiian maps, plexiglass, ink, acrylic paint and media on a small stretched canvas.

What began as grids have developed into more quilt-like compositions in my most recent paintings.

Last week, Lanie Frick left a wonderfully insightful comment about my painting entitled Process.
She wrote:
Reminds me of an aerial view over a rural landscape.

Seems I've been able to combine my experience in Hawaii with my experience on the farm in these small recent paintings!

Thanks so much for visiting my blog!
Hope you're having a wonderful week!

Mary^

I totally agree with the aerial view comment but I have never seen farmland from the plane that looked as sparkly and colorful as your wonderful piece!

I enjoy the quilt like quality to your paintings that seem more layered with papers too or is that an illusion?

Mary, I agree that your works often remind me of birdseye views. They have such wonderful colors, too. I love the aquas and turquoises.

You know it does look like an aerial view where everything looks like a patchwork quilt--only this one sparkles. Nice work.
