Its title was inspired by the composition's image of the loop in the lower left corner.
I love that a turnaround can be defined not only as a space for vehicles to turn around in but also
an abrupt or unexpected change, especially one that results in a more favorable situation.
Because life has its fair share of bumps (and sometimes potholes!) in the road...no pun intended!
I'm also thrilled that one of my topographical artworks sold on Etsy yesterday!
This is one in a series of map sculptures I made with an Omax waterjet, using elements of the earth (water and garnet) to cut. The process is the same as water erosion found in nature but greatly accelerated and concentrated. Inspired by topographical maps of places I had lived and painted, I created drawings that I then scanned and saved into DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) files. The waterjet cut each plywood section directly from these DXF files. Afterwards, I painted and assembled these into low-relief topographic sculptures. Each sculpture is four layers deep.
The piece that sold last yesterday is entitled Pilot Knob, Kentucky...and it's been shipped to Kentucky!
I feel such joy when others connect with my art!
