New Work Wednesday & The Sketchbook Project 2012

11/30/2011

This week I have 2 new paintings to show...to make up showing a WIP last Wednesday!
My new paintings this week are entitled:
Around by Mary C. Nasser
Around
And Around by Mary C. Nasser
And Around
These paintings layer Hawaiian maps, mica, olivine (I purchased on the Big Island of Hawaii), and acrylic on small stretched canvases.

Below I’m sharing a sneak peek of my pages from The Sketchbook Project 2012, too!
The theme I chose was Transatlantic. It was so fun (and addicting) to draw map after map after map!

Happy Mid-Week!

Thanks so much for posting about the Notebook project. I've missed the deadline for the 2012 project, but I just signed up to participate in the limited edition project. It's a good motivator to get me to work on something besides paint on canvas.

This is my first year participating in The Sketchbook Project! I agree that it is great motivation to work on something besides paint on canvas (my favorite!)...I already signed up for the Limited Edition project, too! :)

Hi Mary!
I love these! You really have a very unique style.
I wanted to let you know that I received your invitation for joining your Networked Blog but I can not because it seems I have gone over my 200 blog limit. So sorry!

Mary your map pages are beautiful. I had joined the Sketchbook group a few years ago, but could never find out what happened to the money if someone bought an artists sketchbook. I went to the Chicago showing when it came here and looked through about 30 of the 400 sketchbooks that were there. It was wonderful. Then I bought two of them. I asked at the gallery if the artists themselves would get some of the money, but the gallery seemed not to know. Do you know?

Lovely work on around and around as always! I like your maps on the sketchbook as well - they remind me of contour maps we studied in geography lessons many moons ago at school!

What is the shiny stuff surrounding the olivine? Whatever it is, it gives a nice sense of water. I love the loopy paths in these.
