New Work Wednesday & The Map Project

My new painting this week is entitled Mauna Loa.
Mauna Loa by Mary C. Nasser
Mauna Loa
This painting layers a Hawaiian map, olivine, acrylic media and paint on a small stretched canvas.

I actually like this painting as a diptych with Islands, which I finished and posted last week.
Together, these paintings extend the chain of islands created by the olivine arrangement:
Mauna Loa & Islands by Mary C. Nasser
Mauna Loa & Islands as a diptych
Last week, I also signed up for The Map Project at Art House Co-op!
There was no way I could pass up this project about maps!
Picture
1000 participants signed up for this free project, to create both real and imaginary maps, to be displayed all together in Brooklyn, New York! The only requirement is that the maps fold down to a size no larger than 4" x 6".
Lost Lake by Mary C. Nasser
Lost Lake
My submission is entitled Lost Lake.
I used Prismacolor colored pencils on hand-painted Arches Text Wove paper.
It measures 8" x 20" unfolded. I can't wait for it to meet 999 other maps!

Thanks so much for visiting my blog!
Hope you're having a wonderful week!
Mary^

I like that your painting is divided into rectangles and squares. I like straight lines. I like that each area is different from the others. Your imaginary map is fab - a great project to do and certainly one you couldn't pass on.

Hawaii is really on my mind this time of year. We are not having the unseasonably warm temps where I live. The two paintings look great together -- you have such an interesting variety of texture, shape, line and color. The map project sounds fun.

Mary the map girl! This is FABULOUS - both the painting (Mauna Loa) and the LOST LAKE entry!! How exciting. You did a fantastic job with the colored pencils. And in Mauna Loa, i love how we see specks of the turquoise color in almost every "section". Great work! xoxo
