New Work Wednesday & Lofty Goal Check In!

My new painting this week is entitled On a Gravel Road.

©2013 Mary C. Nasser, On a Gravel Road, mixed-media/acrylic on canvas, 3 x 4 inches
This painting layers maps, text, metal ephemera, acrylic paint and media on a small stretched canvas.

On a Gravel Road refers again to my time spent at Osage Arts Community.
During that residency, I often walked the 1-mile gravel road (Eagle Lane) from the Fibers Studio to
the Gasconade River – an incredibly meditative and wonderful experience that did give me a new perspective.

What a difference that one mile made!

On my very first walk on Eagle Lane, I fed rabbits and ducks, pet  chickens, caught sight of deer, studied wildflowers, and observed cows and horses.

(You can see photos from one of my walks along Eagle Lane here.)

It’s also time to check in on my lofty goal I set for 2012 of making 1 painting a week …
In 2012 I created 50 paintings!
What I learned from this goal in 2011, I found out again in 2012 – that deadlines make all the difference for me!

Below are images of some of the new paintings I created in 2012.
(I added confetti and candles to celebrate!)

What a great accomplishment to have done 50 paintings this past year!! I may have to give goal setting a try...but I have a lot of fear to overcome first. Perhaps I need to try it on a smaller scale first, and build up to bigger goals. Here' s to a great 2013!!

I love the circle amid all the lines in your new painting. Seeing a 2012 retrospective of your work is inspiring. I particularly love the square piece with all of the blues in the second row from the bottom. The addition of the stamps brings such a sparkle of color. Happy PPF!

Mary, your newest painting Gravel Road is wonderful. I used to live in the countryside where gravel roads were common. There is such a peace on paths not well traveled. We speed along too fast to enjoy the ride nowadays. I love the whole array of your 2012 paintings. I notice that a little lavender crept in on a couple of them, along with the aquas and Indian reds (can't think of the modern color name).
