New Work Wednesday: Islands

3/7/2012

My new painting this week is entitled Islands.
Islands by Mary C. Nasser
Islands
This painting layers Hawaiian maps, olivine, a large brad, acrylic media and paint on a small stretched canvas.
I'm continuing to experiment with the grid composition, adding new materials and elements to the grid.
In this painting, I arranged the olivine to resemble a chain of islands.

Want to share some more good art news, too...
Saturday, I was thrilled to receive the following letter from Schmidt Art Center in the mail:

That letter made my whole weekend!

Thanks so much for visiting my blog!
Hope you're having a wonderful week!
Mary^

Your new painting is beautiful! I love the grid concept, and the olivine is perfect for the islands. I had never heard of olivine before, so I enjoyed reading your post about it. I hope a trip to Hawaii is in my future!

Congratulations, Mary! That's such exciting news. I love the olivine islands in your painting. When I was on Maui, we trekked down the the Olivine pools -- I think they're on the northern tip of the island -- and played around in the water. It's very rocky and rough there and was quite an exciting day!! Olivine always reminds me of that exhilarating experience.

I love your work - and this one is no exception. I love how you used the olivine on your piece as islands. I don't remember a green sand beach, but we did go to a black sand beach when we were in Hawaii many years ago. Isn't nature fabulous. Happy PPF and congratulations on your acceptance in the art exhibit. How exciting and well deserved!
