She wrote: "These would make great gifts for my traveling companions."
I welcomed the opportunity! She actually contacted me before taking this trip, so I encouraged her to collect ephemera from the trip for me to collage into the layers to personalize the paintings.
This week, I'm sharing the first commission:
It was a fun challenge incorporating and integrating the porcupine quills and coins she brought back for me from Africa! You'll see these elements again in the other two commissions as well. It was also a fun challenge to make something unique for this patron and what she desired in the work while maintaining my own style including my limited color palette (for example, painting the silhouette of the jaguar in turquoise!).
I layered portions of my large map stencil, small map stencil and map symbols stencil along with the word "go" from Carolyn Dube's uplifting words stencil in this piece, too.
Below are details of the work:
If you'd like to commission a mixed-media map painting or series of paintings, please feel free to contact me.
I'd love to work with you!
Stay tuned...next Wednesday I'll be sharing the second commission!
Thanks so much for visiting my blog!
Have a wonderful week,
