New Work Wednesday: Deep Within

10/19/2011

My new painting this week is entitled Deep Within.

This painting layers a Hawaiian map, ink drawing, vintage image, text, acrylic media, and acrylic on a small stretched canvas. I just love drawing these little petroglyphs from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park!
My husband said that this particular petroglyph resembles a heart!

It’s also time to check in on my lofty goal I set 6 months ago of making 1 painting a week for the rest of the year…
So far, so good!

This is the 25th consecutive week that I have met my goal!
I have 25 new paintings to show for it!

Saturday I brought 23 of these new paintings to Wood Icing and rearranged my exhibition space.
Here is a sneak peak of my new paintings on display at Wood Icing!

Hope to see you at Wood Icing on Friday, October 28th from 6-9pm to celebrate:
A Taste of Sophistication Art, Wine and Chocolate Reception

Lastly, about a month ago, I discovered Paint Party Friday and have been linking up ever since!
Paint Party Friday is a fun place to visit and check-in to show off your Works-In-Progress (WIP) and your finished paintings. Let us help you celebrate what you've done! There are no rules, we are here to play, paint, share our efforts with our friends, encourage each other and hopefully accomplish more together!

Your art feels so genuine. And the textures are wonderful. Add me to the list of people who just learned the word "petroglyph" as well! This post really makes me want to try out some sort of productivity goal of my own.

Thank you for taking a look at my blog, I truly appreciate it. I'm already behind on BYW materials, but liking it nevertheless.

Mary, how wonderful to be able to keep up with your painting goal and to do it with such lovely works. And your paintings look so good arranged like that at the Wood Icing. (Wish I had those boards in my art room so I could hang my stuff decently.)

If I were close to St. Louis, I would so attend this show! Would love to see these pieces together. Your work informs the next. You don't talk alot about the concpetual meanings behind them, but they are chalk full of symbolism. This intriques me.

That's so cool, not only the 25 paintings! but also Paint Party Friday. I just joined Illustration Friday and I can already tell it's going to be really neat - I only wish I had joined sooner!

And it's really great to see all your work framed and lined up, it looks so impressive. I would love to do some of that but frames are so expensive and I usually buy other art supplies instead. :)

Good Morning Mary; I, too, love to work with mixed media. And what a great gallery and reception -- with chocolate; I was in St. Louis this past August for a week and everyone is so friendly there; what was funny is they loved to hear me talk because of my "southern draw" I guess. I told them they were the ones with the accent, not me. One girl, quite young about 20, said, "really" -- She meant it. Adorable. Insde a map you seem to discover another map as it comes forth -- as you say; deep within our souls -- Blessings Terri www.morningdewdrops.typepad.com
