My new painting this week is entitled A Mile.

©2012 Mary C. Nasser, A Mile, mixed-media/acrylic on canvas, 4 x 6 inches
This painting layers maps, text, metal ephemera, acrylic paint and media on a small stretched canvas.

A Mile refers again to my time spent at Osage Arts Community.

During that residency, I often walked the 1-mile gravel road (Eagle Lane) from the Fibers Studio to the Gasconade River – an incredibly meditative and wonderful experience that did give me a new perspective.

What a difference that one mile made!

On my very first walk on Eagle Lane, I fed rabbits and ducks, pet chickens, caught sight of deer, studied wildflowers, and observed cows and horses.

(You can see photos from one of my walks along Eagle Lane here.)

Thanks so much for visiting my blog!
Hope you're having a wonderful week!
Mary^

I love how you have the wide copper line of color interrupting the grid- my eye just shot along that line!

As always, I love your use of color and texture. This piece reminds me of an improv quilt -- perhaps because it resembles a 9-patch variation.

LOVED the photos from your walk!! I miss living in the country SO much! My brother and I used to walk 1.5 to school on country roads--always something interesting to see. I especially loved the wildflowers that changed with the seasons.

"What a difference a mile can make." How very true. Every time I walk a mile I see something new (if I am really looking). I can also come home with a new idea or as you wrote a new perspective.

Your painting is beautiful. I love the colors and all of the textures that you use to create such an interesting piece of art.

I love all the turquoise you use in your maps that to me definitely speak of the color of the water there, and the copper for the shimmering sunsets on the water. How long were you in residence? How did your art change? Do you usually "create" alone or are there family/friends/other artists around? So this program only costs $25.00???
