My new painting this week is entitled Residency.

This diptych layers maps, mica, text, olivine, ephemera, acrylic paint and media on a 2 small stretched canvases.

This work was inspired by my time spent at Osage Arts Community.

During my residency, I often walked the 1-mile gravel road (Eagle Lane) from the Fibers Studio to the Gasconade River – an incredibly meditative and wonderful experience. During my very first walk on Eagle Lane, I fed rabbits and ducks, pet chickens, caught sight of deer, studied wildflowers, and observed cows and horses.

The copper line that connects the 2 paintings represents Eagle Lane.
(You can see photos from one of my walks along Eagle Lane here.)

I am grateful beyond words for this residency – for the gifts of time, solitude, unconditional support, and friendship that Executive Director, Mark McClane gave to me.
I am also incredibly grateful for the kindness Tony Hayden, Executive Secretary, extended; he generously shared his wisdom and cooking lessons with me!

Hence, my decision to paint 2 canvases as 1 diptych: a tribute to both Mark and Tony.

I am donating this diptych to Osage Arts Community for its permanent collection.

Thanks so much for visiting my blog!
Hope you're having a wonderful week!

Mary^
