New Art Journaling

These new art journal pages were inspired by the Ruby Dahlia Society journaling series. For this process, I worked intuitively using wet-into-wet, wet-on-dry, and glazing techniques with inks and Wildthorne watercolors. I painted lines and implied lines. Blue colored pencil is incorporated into the layers, and I used a calligraphy nib for emotive mark-making, too.

I put aside my metal straight-edge, embracing the personal gestures and linear divergences of the lines, varying the widths and dimensions of my stripes. I added multiple layers of different textural mineral watercolors as well as varying hues and colors from Wildthorne palettes I’ve collected: Voyager, Ocean sediment, and Painted Rock.
