Last week's opening reception at Schmidt Art Center was lovely.
It was really cool to see my name on the wall, too!
The Curator and Curatorial Assistant of Schmidt Art Center did an AMAZING job arranging, hanging and lighting my exhibition! You can even see my work from outside the Art Center! I couldn’t be more pleased!
Navigate by Mary C. Nasser at Schmidt Art Center
On display are selected mixed-media map paintings (including my newest paintings!) along with low-relief topographic sculptures. During a residency, I had the unique opportunity to use an Omax waterjet, using elements of the earth (water and garnet) to cut. The process is the same as water erosion found in nature but greatly accelerated and concentrated. Inspired by topographical maps of places I had lived and painted, I created drawings that I then scanned and saved into DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) files. The waterjet cut each plywood section directly from these DXF files. Afterwards, I painted and assembled these into low-relief topographic sculptures. Each sculpture is four layers deep.

Navigate will be on exhibit until June 21, 2013.

Have a great week!
Mary^

Hi Mary Apologies for my tardy comment. Thanks so much for linking up with the POTMC. Wow, congratulations! You are a clever minx. Your techniques sound fascinating, especially the mixed-media map paintings. J x
