Healing Through the Arts

Saturday I had the privilege of leading the pediatric workshop Printmaking Magic! at Mercy Children’s Hospital. This workshop was part of Mercy's Healing Through the Arts program: a series of free art workshops designed to enhance healing for patients and their families.

The children were delightful and made AMAZING monoprints with Gelli Arts plates and StencilGirl stencils!
The process was super fun, and the results immediate and wonderful! They really inspired me!

I began leading Healing Through the Arts workshops after my own father was treated for cancer at Mercy's David C. Pratt Cancer Center. It was my dad who first told me about Mercy's Healing Through the Arts program; he learned about the program during his 5-year follow-up visit after his treatment and surgery. I'm so grateful that he beat cancer, and this is just one small way I can give back and help others with their healing process, too.

I hope you have a wonderful week,
Mary^

What a wonderful program! I know those families had a happy time and for a while, forgot about their pain and worries. I too believe art heals. Years ago, my sweet Aunt started a Clown Ministry for our local children's hospital. She has since passed, but the Ministry still lives and has grown. Art is truly what keeps me sane and provides a mental decompression, if you will. I love all the wonderful people in the art community. Most folks are happy because they get to create with their hands & share what they love. Art is a beautiful gift!! Thank you, Mary, for sharing yours!

Mary, This is wonderful! I'd love to do offer something like this in our area. I'd love to hear more what you are doing and if you have a therapist with you. Thanks.

What a wonderful way of spreading monoprinting love. I'm addicted to my gelli plate and can't think of a better way to put it to use. ♥

Mary, What a wonderful thing to do. You have given me an idea for a local children's hospital. The samples from the children are fantastic. Great job!
