Green Rock

4/18/2011

Yesterday, Dan and I hiked 7 miles of the Green Rock Trail, designed and built in the mid-1960s by Boy Scout Troop 594 from St. Louis Country Day School.  Now the trail is maintained by the Greater St. Louis Area Boy Scout Council.  Like the Appalachian Trail, the Green Rock is marked with rectangular white paint blazes on trailside trees.

Needless to say, it was another inspiring hike.

I hope that my photos below from yesterday’s hike give you some inspiration on this Monday.

Safe travels,
Mary

Glad you enjoyed the pictures!
I love the mushroom, too!
It's the first time I've seen one with texture like that...it reminded me of a brain! I agree...fascinating!

Thank you Kathryn.
I need to do some research to find out what my blue-tailed friend is.

Anyone know? :)

I'll let you know when I find out!

It's a skink!
The internet made it easy to find...just a google search of blue tail lizard.

I did learn, though, that if attacked, the bright blue tail wriggles when broken off, catching an enemy's eye as the skink escapes.

Very interesting and fascinating!
Especially since it was the tail that caught my eye, too!

Best,
Mary

It must have been a young skink because I read, too, that when immature, these lizards sport a bright blue tail that draws the attention of predators away from the vital parts of their body.

Love that the beautiful blue can help keep the little guy safe! :)

Best,
Mary

I love walks in the bush. I take my two dogs and they love it, they get up to a lot of mischief too.
