Michael Mullan
This Friday’s featured artist is Michael Mullan and his amazing hand-lettered maps!

He writes:
"The key in making a well-designed illustrated map is to create a visual balance & maintain readability.
To begin, I do a lot of research. I find all of the travel hot spots, landmarks, and words associated with the area. Next, I find a current map of the area and use that as a guideline when laying out my words & elements."
Michael Mullan
"Once the sketch is set, I pick my palette and begin the finished illustration."
Michael Mullan
I love seeing his creative process!

I always think its neat to see things visually represented like this on maps! Wordplay and art naturally go well together if you just think about how to use them creatively. Cool work!

I've always thought that art using words was pretty cool but this is just beautiful. I gotta see if he's done Tennessee, Georgia, and Iowa. These would make great gifts for my parents.
