Friday Favorite: Leah Evans

This Friday’s Feature artist is Leah Evans!
I am amazed by her map-inspired quilts!

From her artist statement:
My current work combines aerial photography, maps, and satellite imagery.
It is the use of maps in organizing our ideas of land that interests me most of all. Often, people ask me for specifics about the places and symbols in my work. Most of my pieces are not based consciously on specific places. For me they are intimate explorations of map language and imagined landscapes.

So unique! Aerial photography is just asking to be in quilt form... Doesn't it?

These quilts are stunning! I've always thought that the land looked like a quilt when I flew over it and now Leah Evans has shown how lovely it can be.

Thank you for the wonderful and insightful comments.

Leah just started a page for my textile work under the name Leah Evans Textiles. If you like it, you'll get photos of works in progress and notices of shows and events.
