This Friday’s featured artist is Layla Curtis.
London-based artist Layla Curtis is best known for her intricate collages and drawings of maps.

She states:
By dissecting, dismembering, and collaging maps to create new, hybrid maps, I aim to explore the effects of disturbing this trusted system of mapping.

Visit Layla Curtis’ website to see details of these intricate collages.

I’d also encourage you to visit her Antipodes website. Antipodes is an online and photographic project that launched on the spring equinox this year. The project pairs webcam images from places on opposite sides of the globe. As far away from each other as it is possible to be, these have apparent differences – like day/night, summer/winter – but also unexpected similarities. Antipodes highlights topographical, architectural and cultural similarities and will run for a period of a year.

TGIF!
