Friday Favorite: Julie Johnson

This Friday’s featured artist is Julie Johnson and her wonderful map collages!
She is another St. Louis area artist whom I’ve had the pleasure to meet and make art with.
And I find her map collages really unique and striking!

Julie writes:
I spend much of my work day driving around St. Louis City. As an artist and photographer, I am attracted to the bright buildings and neighborhood revitalization projects happening in South City, North City, Cherokee Street, and beyond. I experience each neighborhood in St. Louis on a personal and visual level. As a teacher working with families in the inner city, each neighborhood represents a family's story and a personal experience with my
community.

Awesome! Thanks so much for the support Mary!!! You picked my favorites!! The next step is working on printing them on some sort map-like texture. Any ideas on this would be helpful (especially since I have to take them through an ink jet).

I just love how luminous these layers of photos are -- transparent with an almost stained glass effect. Great way to tell community stories. Bravo!
