This Friday’s featured artist is Joao Machado and his extraordinary map collages!
I’m amazed by his technique of organizing small pieces of maps into intricate mosaic portraits!

He writes:
Everybody needs a map to understand the physical world we live in. We look to maps to understand the spiritual world, as in astrology, for example. We need maps to understand each other in this constant exploration. An exploration of both the extent of the galaxy and the depths of our own inner-space.

Just a note for Raine....while Mary does amazing work with maps and otherwise, she would want you to be aware that she has highlighted another artist in this post and it is not hers. Perhaps you know that and I have misinterpreted your comment...if so, I send apologies.

What detail! I love maps as well. Sometimes I use them to make pictures, and sometimes I use other mediums to make maps.
