Friday Favorite: Emily Fischer & Haptic Lab

9/14/2012

This Friday’s Feature is Emily Fischer and her small design studio in Brooklyn called Haptic Lab!

Emily received her Masters Degree in Architecture and started creating soft-maps as an academic experiment in tactile wayfinding; the quilts were inspired by Emily’s own mother Peggy who had begun losing her eyesight from complications of glaucoma.

It's a powerful idea to think of maps as tactile tools, comprehended through the sense of touch.
Haptic Lab
They're just a few days away from unveiling their do-it-yourself map quilting kits!
If you live in the New York City area, you can even participate in weekly sewing nights at Haptic Lab's Brooklyn studio beginning next month!
And I can hardly wait for their map KITES in 2013! Whee! Sounds like lots of map fun!

To find out more about Emily Fischer, visit Haptic Lab’s website!

TGIF!

Love love love...thank you for introducing Haptic Lab to me. Quilting is such an art to begin with. Their concept adds a whole other level to it.
