This Friday's Feature artist is Chris Zielski and her copper map art!
I especially love her map of Traverse City!
It’s a city close to my heart, having taught drawing and painting at Interlochen for 10 summers.
Chris writes:
I’ve been an artist for over 15 years — I started in textiles, but switched to metal when I was researching non-toxic printmaking techniques for a high school course. I ended up not teaching the class, but fell in love with creating textured surfaces in metal.
I believe that ideas and inspiration come from all around us, and that you don’t have to cram your senses with every art museum/ show/ book out there. In fact, I think that saturating yourself with other people’s ideas often leaves no room for your own. Sometimes you have to quiet your mind to hear yourself think.
