Friday Favorite: Beth Howe

This Friday’s Feature artist is Beth Howe!

I love the way she used the off-cuts of the installation Bow River Topograph (2009) to create her Topopads(2010)!
Picture
Bow River Topograph, 2009, handcut office paper, 8 feet x 8 feet x 4 inches. The Topograph series of cut drawings are dimensional objects created by drawing lines with a knife instead of a writing tool. Each sheet of paper is cut one at time.

From  her artist statement:
My artistic practice revolves around three main fascinations: books, drawings, and place. My visual image for my practice is three hula hoopers standing in close proximity. The area described by their oscillating hoops is sometimes close to the body (i.e. the root fascination), sometimes far; sometimes it overlaps with the circles of the other hula hoopers' hoops, and sometimes it doesn't. Perhaps that only clarifies things for me, but what it means is than any given project probably touches on at least one of those areas, usually at least two at once, and it may range widely from the starting point while always staying in its orbit.

Recently I have been considering the possibilities of line, wilderness, the city, pages, paper, reading, objects and the experience of the world through the five senses, architecture, travel and what makes a location a
place, imagemaking, perception, multiplicity, labor, skill, and where I am right now, which happens to be Vancouver.

Her Topopads are available for purchase at Art Metropole in Toronto.
TGIF!

I truly liking the 3D feel of this.

I checked some earlier posts from you too, and seems we've been visiting the same places a lot. Nice to see pictures from Iceland, Estonia and Denmark, very familiar :)
