Friday Favorite: Ben Joyce

This Friday’s Feature artist is Ben Joyce!
I love his Abstract Topophilia!

From his bio:
Topophilia: The affective bond between people and place. The Love of Place.

Ben Joyce takes an unconventional approach to art and his trademark, Abstract Topophilia, shows it. It’s landscape art, laid on its back and injected with verve. His paintings reunite people with their memories of place and inspire them to new ones. Emphatic colors and distinctive materials such as oils, resins, woods and acrylics mark the hand cut canvases. The shaped edges and cut outs break up the traditional “full frame” that would otherwise confine the experience, allowing the viewer to expand the painting beyond its border with their knowledge of the area.

I love the color and texture in the work here. If I had to pick a favorite it would be this one - Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, Mixed Media, 37 x 43 1/2 inches - because I love how the light area on the top pops out against the dark below.
