Art Challenge: Using at Least Five Layers
Journal Prompt: Give Me a High Five
Following Rae Missigman's lead, I began my layers with my 8" x 10" Gelli Arts plate – printing directly onto my pages. This is a fun, fast way to get colors and layers onto pages. I used more than five layers for this challenge! After layering 8" x 10" monotypes with my Gelli plate, I added more layers of acrylic paint with my 3" x 5" Gelli plate and stencils, along with ledger paper, underpaper, handpainted paper a friend used to wrap a gift for me, graphite, white pen, permanent black pen, a recycled paper doily, paint pens, black Stabilo, a small number 5 decal and rubber stamping.
In the detail below, you can see the unique texture created by using a stencil and the 3" x 5" Gelli plate. The teeny-tiny number 5 decal is barely visible under the layers of turquoise paint:

Below are details of the Gelli printing, Stabilo, underpaper and vintage ledger paper along with stenciling, washi tape, pink paint marker, and illegible writing in black permanent marker. Inspired by the journal prompt, I wrote reasons I should give myself a high five – or give myself credit – for handling a recent challenge in my life.
I added rows of imperfect circles with a stencil, added turquoise paint pen to these, and cut three various sized circles from my friend's handmade gift paper. After gluing down the wrapping paper circles, I outlined them with a black Stabilo then brushed a water on the Stabilo to soften and integrate it. Then I added more pink paint pen dots around these. The recycled doily is more visible in this detailed shot, too:
Still having a lot of fun writing with my white pen. It is barely visible in this detailed photo. There is rubber stamping along the bottom edge, more stenciling for the numbers and lettering, and turquoise paint pen. I just love the weathered surface that layers of Gelli prints can create, too!
