Today I'm sharing what I created for Week 41 of
The Original Documented Life Project™ The Journal!

October Theme
Translucent Papers

October 10 Challenge & Prompt
Art Challenge:  Tissue Paper
Journal Prompt:  The Disappearing Trick
Mary C. Nasser, Mixed Media Art Journal
For this week’s page, I built up the background with techniques I learned in Seth Apter’s and Mary Beth Shaw's Art Journaling Workshop to create layers and surface texture. It was a lot of fun building up these layers of color and texture with gesso and acrylics!

In addition, I adhered an art tag I'd created inspired by Roben-Marie Smith’s In the Garden Art Tag Tutorial. This helped create a focal point. Love that ART POPS™ Sticker Arrow on the tag!

The black and gold paper with latitude and longitude measurements is from Art-C'sTravel Ephemera Collage Kit.

I used black acrylic and Seth Apter's Techno Insiders Circle, Techno Insiders Star, and Urban Insiders Star stencils from StencilGirl Products on tissue paper. When the paint dried, I cut and adhered these onto the surface...sure enough, the tissue paper "disappeared" into the texture beneath!

Also incorporated are Seth Apter's Solar Eclipse rubber stamp for even more texture.
I added a little Sharpie Mean Streak here and there, too, and of course some scribble journaling in both white and black ink.

Below are details:

I love the combination of messy + refined areas! The black gesso creates a really nice focal point. It really pulls everything together! Beautifully done, Mary! I can look at your pages all day ;-)
