Colourcraft & StencilGirl Blog Hop!

Welcome to Day ONE of the StencilGirl Products & Colourcraft Blog Hop!
StencilGirl Products & Colourcraft Blog Hop
I have been having a lot of fun using Brusho Crystals Colours with StencilGirl stencils! Being new to Brushos, I used thumbtacks to puncture a small hole in the top of the pot through which to sprinkle the product. Because this is a highly pigmented and concentrated watercolor powder, the small hole is enough to shake the color out. The thumbtack also acts as a stopper. In addition, I used a permanent marker to write the names of the colors on the lids so that I could find colors easily while creating. I cut down some 140-pound watercolor paper, too, to 6" x 6" squares.
StencilGirl Products & Colourcraft Blog Hop
I began by using my Let's Go 2 stencil and large stencil from the set Second Star to the Right and Straight on 'til Morning. With a Sofft art sponge, I pounced onto an embossing stamp pad, then pounced through the stencils onto the watercolor paper. Then I poured white embossing powder on the images, making sure to cover all of the words and stars. Next, I shook the excess powder onto a piece of scrap paper. I swept my heat gun over the images to emboss them. Not only does this create some dimension, but the white embossed areas will also resist the Brusho product.

Using a flat brush, I applied clean water to the piece. Then I shook Violet, Ultramarine, and Turquoise colors onto the work. This powder is super-concentrated and lovely!

Using a brush with more clean water, I blended the colors a bit, and let it dry naturally to continue to blend wonderfully! The results are so cool! I love the intense colors and way that some of the crystals remain concentrated to create a fun background!
Mary C. Nasser, Mixed Media Art
Using the same technique on another 6" x 6" piece of watercolor paper, I white heat embossed the word journey from my Let's Go 2 stencil surrounded by Mary Beth Shaw's Phases of the Moon stencil from her Winter Solstice Set. Love that bold color! This time I sprinkled Prussian Blue and Turquoise pigment onto the wet paper!
Mary C. Nasser, Mixed Media Art
I painted a spread in my large Dylusions art journal with Dark Blue Aztec Lustres Craft Paint, then adhered the two 6" x 6" Brusho pieces on opposite pages. Using a fineline applicator filled with Titanium White Golden High Flow Acrylic, I did scribble-writing about traveling around the edges. Below is my finished art journal spread:
