My new painting this week is entitled Along the River's Edge.

This painting layers collage, lots of maps, graphite, and acrylic paint with the Old World Map Stencils from Artistcellar on a stretched canvas. Click on the photo above to see a larger image.

In this painting, I intentionally experimented with limiting my palette to neutral colors along with my favorite complementary combination of teal and copper.

Below are details of the work, too:

Along the River's Edge is another painting inspired by my time spent at Osage Arts Community – truly a lovely little farm along the river's edge.

During that residency, I often walked the 1-mile gravel road on the farm from my studio to the Gasconade River – an incredibly meditative and wonderful experience. On my very  first walk to the edge of the Gasconade River, I fed rabbits and ducks, pet chickens, caught sight  of deer, studied wildflowers, and observed cows and horses.
(You can see  photos from one of my walks along Eagle Lane here.)

My friend Mark and I have made plans to meet at Osage Arts Community again very soon. And I'm really looking forward to seeing him! I'm so grateful for his unconditional support.

Thanks so much for visiting my blog!
Hope you're having a wonderful week!
Mary^

This piece is just lovely. I love the way you have incorporated the stencils so that they no longer look like stencils. I have found that the most difficult part of using those map stencils.

I think you did the right thing by limiting the colors to teal and copper. It really makes the pattern created by the map more dramatic looking. Really nice job on this.
